Horse Riding in Paphos & Cyprus
There are various places to do Horse Riding in the Paphos District of Cyprus from a 10 minute stroll along the beach for the kids to week long excursions for the more experienced and keen riders. We have highlighted below two of the main places you can go to ride horses in Cyprus.
Ride in Cyprus
Ride in Cyprus is a horse riding stable near Lysos; it offers lots of great days out with Forest tracks overlooking the coast to the North West and mountains to the East. There are valley rides through volcanic rock formations and out onto the rolling plains where you can discover deserted Turkish villages. The scenery on the hacks are undoubtedly the best in Cyprus.
There are lots of different treks and hacks that you can go on, you can get treks that watch the sunset over the west coast of Cyprus, 1 and 2 hour treks/hacks are available, you can also get all day picnic rides and overnight trips to Stavros where you can stay in the hostel) explore well ‘off the beaten track’. You will often see wild Mouflon, various birds, butterflies, flowers and lizards etc. The longer treks are during spring and autumn (March to May and mid-September to Christmas) – day rides and hour/two hourly treks run all year, depending on the weather. The speed and route chosen depends on the experience of the riders and the condition of the ground.
A mixed group will ride to the pace of the least experienced, but they try make your group private for your maximum enjoyment. I went on the 2 hour hack and the time just flew by. I had such a great time! I learnt loads of new things about the history of Cyprus and the Turkish, volcanic rocks and the earth’s plates. I learnt that Cyprus is made up off two different plates, the African plate to the south and the Eurasian plate to the north.
I also learnt about how the Turkish had to flee their villages when the war began in the 1960’s, we also got told about the Turkish villages, we got to walk through them, we saw the tap they used to get their water, the schools, houses and churches all in 2 hours!. I also got to practice skills with horses, I got to canter, for the first time, I also had a lot of tries at mounting, which I also had never done, my legs ached after all the trotting we did too, the instructor was really nice and very informative, she chatted and helped me through-out the hack.

Stavros tis Psokas Road
Georges ranch is at Agios Georgios, this is a horse riding stables, and a great place for animal-lovers, and they do all ages from 2 up (my little sister loved it). Trekking around the area of sea caves is an ideal way to see the stunning scenery, It has nice, polite instructors who talk to you on your hack while teaching you how to ride your horse if you are a new rider, and help you go a step further in your horsey history, so if you can trot, they will teach you to canter! You can also buy lessons from the ranch and they will teach you all you need to know to become a professional horse rider!
The horses and ponies, each has it’s own unique personality and colours, there’s a ‘Dalmatian horse’ who’s white with small black spots to jet black horse. Its defiantly worth visiting! The Trek down to Sea Caves is lovely.
