Peristerona

Peristerona is a traditional mountain village in Paphos District, Cyprus. It's a picturesque village famous for its efforts to maintain the beauty and the traditions of Cyprus. Peristerona is primarily an agricultural village producing cereals, olives and almonds with its wonderful climate producing many delightful fruits and vegetables such as cherries, avocado, mango, watermelons, apples, lemons and oranges in abundance. The name Peristerona derives from the Greek word for dove or pigeon (peristeri). The church, St. Barnabas and Hilarion Church, has five domes on the roof arranged in the shape of a cross, a feature only seen on one other church in the island. Peristerona is always a very green village due to the lush vegetation.

It all looks particularly special in winter and spring months and is ideal for photographers, artists and those who like to walk and even hike.In various locations around Peristerona there are many remarkable landmark churches. Ayios Georgios was built in the 13th century where frescoes of Saint Mama can be found and it’s still protected by the antiquities department. Churches such as Panayia Chryselousa constructed at the end of the 15th century with Byzantine and Gothic elements, Profitis Elias, Ayios Constantinos, Ayios Charalambos and the country church of Archangel Michael provide for a unique perspective of the village’s history.

The famous museum of Arsinoe displays an attractive collection of objects from the Byzantine period, including Byzantine icons from the 13th to 19th centuries, as well as wood carved ecclesiastical items, local and imported silver and metal artefacts as well as textiles. Rare books and manuscripts are also on display.Peristerona is situated between the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the spectacular mountains of Paphos Forest and the Troodos. Walking in the forests is a delight. Filled with pine trees, fruit and olive trees, wild flowers and herbs and vineyards the air is scented and the views spectacular. The nearby village of Steni (also steeped in tradition) hosts a coffee shop with wireless internet access and a very good traditional taverna. Travel a little further into the hills and you will find Lysos, which has a very good horse riding school and is also home to a very good traditional Cyprus taverna, with neighbouring shops and the more widely known Paradisos Hills Hotel which does an excellent Sunday buffet as well as a themed Indian night on a Friday. There is also a shooting club, mainly doing clay pigeon shootingwith spectacular scenery as a backdrop.

Heading back towards the coastline and you will find the small town of Polis. There is plenty of activity to choose from in Polis, whether you wish to dine in one of the many good quality restaurants, have a coffee or lunch in the central square, hire mountain bikes, quad bikes or maybe even a boat! The nearby Latchi beach is renowned as one of the best in Cyprus and not as crowded as the beaches in and around Paphos itself.

Latchi beach is famous for its clear blue sea, soft white sand and a great selection of watersports which are readily available. The watersports available at Latchi include diving, snorkelling, sailing, banana rides and a great deal more. Bring your UK driving licence and you can even hire a boat and explore the Akamas coast from the sea. Drop anchor when you feel like it and swim or snorkel in the warm crystal blue water of the Mediterranean Sea.For the more adventurous, you can explore the Akamas nature reserve and go all the way round to Lara Beach famous for its turtles and another wonderful unspoilt beach. You can also venture to the nearby villages of Miliou, Droushia and Panagia or further on to Kathikas with its vineyards and wineries.

Other fantastic scenery can be taken in at Cedar Valley and the Troodos mountain range where in winter, you can even ski! Paphos airport is 40 minutes away by very good quality roads with English road signs. Visit Peristerona (for a taste of the real Cyprus) and you won’t be disappointed.

''The villa was fabulous, it was very spacious, had everything we needed and the sunsets were breathtaking. The location was good, away from all the crowds but easy enough to drive anywhere else.

We would highly recommend the food and service at Moustakallis and Finikas both in Polis.

We were very satisfied with the service we received from yourselves. We were extremely satisfied with the owner, he was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble..'We had a fabuolous holiday'

''The villa Peristerona Hills was absolutely beautiful with stunning views all around. The location was quiet and peaceful with amazing views. The village of Peristerona is safe and friendly. The Watermill Taverna was one of our favourite places to eat a few minutes drive from our Villa. They provided quality food and reasonable prices with lovely helpful staff. We would definitely recommend renting a boat from Latchi watersports to visit the Blue lagoon, the whole family snorkeled in the sea looking at all the tropica fish and coral. Letsrentonline forwarded a 15% discount count code which we used towards the cost of the boat hire which was fantastic.

The service provided by Steven from Letsrentonline again was professional and fantastic. Nothing was to much trouble and all of my questions answers quickly. Absolutely the best company.

The owner of the Villa was available all of the time as he stayed in the property up the road, he came to visit with his grandson on a couple of occasions with a bottle of wine for myself and my husband and a tub of ice-cream for the children! So kind. He came early in the morning to water the grass and to maintain the pool to a high standard everyday.

There is no way to improve the property or service it was fantastic. We will be booking the Villa again for next year using Letsrentonline.''

''Amazing villa. Very clean. Would highly recommend. Fantastic location. Could look at that view all day!

Polis Herb Garden a must for quality food and the Water Mill very good value. Absolutely 100% satisfied with your service, very accommodating/helpful.''

Review submitted by Beverley from Manchester (Submitted: 25/10/2021)

''This was our second visit to this beautiful, secluded villa perched high in the hills in Peristerona. The villa has the most fabulous views down over the fields towards the sea at Latchi. Just perfect. The terrace is a perfect place to sit and watch the sun set over the hills.

We visited many restaurants and a few bars whilst there. Finekas, Moustalakalis and Saddles in Polis. The village pub and Centre point in the square for a drink and to watch the football. Restamare in Latchi and the cocktail bar on the beach is lovely.

The Watermill at Steni is a firm favourite with us. We have been there many times over the years and have got to know Archie and his family very well. All home cooked food. Delicious. We went back down to Coral Bay and had lunch at the SeaCaves Taverna and also went to Kathikas one evening and had food at Yiannis taverna. Fabulous. Paradisos hills Hotel is also lovely for lunch and also for food in the evenings. We also went to Fly again restaurant down at Arkaka.

Communications with you Steven I cannot fault. Always replied to all my emails straight away and I sent a few to you. We had a couple issues whilst at the villa but Phillipos dealt with these immediately for us.

We asked for soft pillows on this visit and they were all supplied. Thankyou for dealing with that request for us.

We are certain we will be back to Peristerona again at sometime. We just love that area. and the people. We had a fantastic holiday, in a fantastic villa, in a fantastic area of Cyprus. We will be back!

And thanks Steven for all your help. Much appreciated. Regards Bev, John, Gill and John''

''We had a great time thanks and will definitely be back! Perfect villa, stunning views, beautiful inside, very clean and we were looked after by Phillipos extremely well. Perfect for great walks and very close to Polis where there is everything you need - a car is essential though. Steni Tavern and the Watermill both in Steni and Aroma cafe in Peristerona. All service excellent. Nothing to add. We certainly hope to visit in 2022 ''

''The villa was beautiful. The location was excellent. Secluded but not too far from amenities. Amazing views and sunsets. Would definitely recommend eating at The Watermill in Steni, Moustakalis in Polis, Chix Chox in Polis and Finikas in Polis. Latchi Harbour and Paphos Harbour are lovely to visit as is Limassol Marina. Karlina's in Paphos is good for drinks and worth a visit for breakfast. Coral Bay and Baths of Aphrodite are both worth a visit.

As always we were very satisfied with the service received from Lets Rent Online. The owners were very nice and communicated very well with regard to cleaning of the villa, pool. Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Would you thank them on our behalf for the lovely bottle of wine left at the front door on return from eating out on Wednesday evening. Very kind.

Already booked to return to same villa in June 2022 and looking for other accommodation for late September 2022 also. Regards. Vanessa and David S ''

''We had a really lovely and peaceful holiday in this beautiful villa. Having stayed around this area before we knew the villa was ideally situated for all of our favourite restaurants. The owner and the local agents were very efficient. We won't hesitate to use LetsRentOnline.com again. Our favourite restaurants were The Old Town in Polis, Finikas And Moustakilis also in Polis. Also No.9 Lounge in Latchi. The Watermill Tavern in Steni was very good as well. Hopefully we will be returning to Cyprus either next year or in 2 years depending on restrictions. We don't mind our comments being used. Thanks so much Dee and Brian. ''

''The house is amazing. The location is fine. The view is worth the ride. We recommend George Watersports in Latchi. You did a great job. All went well. We would return. Wish you a good season and hope that tourists will be back in Cyprus soon. It is an amazing and underestimated European country. Best regards, A ''

''Thank you for a relaxing and eventful time in Cyprus with the wonderful accommodation (Peristerona Hills). large plot, spacious accommodations, uninterrupted views, equipped with every conceivable amenity. very good starting point for city tours as well as to explore the flora and fauna of the island. We recommend Archontariki Restaurant in Polis and Neromylos Watermill Taverne in Steni

The communication with yourselves was very uncomplicated and fast (despite our manageable English ).
Filippo (Peristerona Hills) and Savvas personally welcomed us and showed us everything. Filippo was immediately there when there were questions and a little thing to fix. For us everything was really to the highest satisfaction. Thank you again for everything and all the best for your company. We will definitely recommend you unreservedly. Warmest greetings. Jana ''

'' Villa Peristerona Hills is certainly in a beautiful spot. Didn’t get bored with the view whilst we were there! The property was lovely and clean. The location was stunning with amazing views. We recommend Moustakallis in Polis and Sea Caves Lounge Bar on the Sea front at Sea Caves.

Good service from you as always. The owner greeted us at the villa when we arrived, even though this was after midnight. Although we saw him most days of our stay as he cleaned the pool, he was not at all intrusive. He presented us with a bottle of wine on our last day which was very kind of him. No improvements required!''

'' The villa itself was beautiful and very well equipped. We rent four/five villas each year and it was very refreshing ( as well as useful) to have cleaning equipment ( bleach, sprays, dish cloths scourers, toilet rolls etc) all provided and “topped up” during our stay. The location was excellent . We did know it’s situation before we booked and the views were stunning. All day boat hire from Latchi water sports and The Water Mill in Steni. Very satisfied with your service. Owners both excellent. Philiposs is a very kind and affable gentleman. ''

Review submitted by Chris from Isle of Wight (Submitted: 15/09/2018)

'' The property was a good size, clean and modern - the layout was good and provided a nice living space. There was an issue with ants in the kitchen, having said that; the owner was absolutely fantastic, very accommodating and sorted out the ant problem as soon as we said, he also came round to clean the pool daily and also dropped off a bottle of drink during the stay, which was a nice touch.

The location was lovely, very quiet and in a lovely local area. Moustakallis and Steni watermill is a must! Would also recommend hiring a boat from Latchi watersports

Owner was faultless - lovely, hospitable man who was around if and when we needed him. No improvements to the property or service needed. Thanks again for another wonderful holiday :) ''
Review submitted by Tracey from Aberdeenshire (Submitted: 15/06/2018)

''Getting back to normal but wishing I was back in Cyprus. The property looked lovely in the photos but when we arrived it was even better. The villa itself was perfect, everything that was needed for our stay was there. Philipos, the owners son was always around if we needed anything, such a lovely man. He came to clean the pool regularly and sometimes just popped round to check all was ok. The location gave amazing views and not too far from paphos and latchi since we had a hire car. We were aware that the villa was in the hills and the village within walking distance but unfortunately the hill was too steep for my parents (in their 70's) to be able to walk there and back. That is the only negative for us about the location but probably fine for other people.

We went to a local cafe further down the hill that was lovely - Philipos took us there one evening. The food was high quality and very good service. It was The Watermill Cafe in Steni. We were very happy with the service you provided. As the original villa we booked became unavailable you recommended the Peristerona Hills to us. I'm so glad we went to this villa. Feel free to use any comments and thank you again for all your help. Tracey x ''

''Very good, nicely laid out and good facilities - owner provides a nice welcome pack which is always appreciated. External area is lovely with a fab pool and great views. Great location, area is nice, Peristerona has some basic facilities and not far from Polis. Always go to Yialos Beach Grill in Latchi - great food on the beach. Definitely satisfied with you (letsrentonline) as agents - always great, efficient service. The owner is attentive and available - very nice man. Can't fault it - it's my favourite villa that I've stayed in and I will be back. ''

''Fantastic villa, very clean and well . Fantastic location if you like remote ( which we do!). We would highly recommend hiring a boat from Latchi Watersports ( although we forgot we could have got a discount!) Faros restaurant at Latchi Harbour was very good as well didn't really like the Herb Garden in Polis the Tombs of the Kings and the Castle at Pahos were both worth visiting. Your service was absolutely first class immediate response and very helpful. The owner was a lovely guy gave us fresh eggs and oranges for fresh orange juice every day English a little poor but we got there in the end and he was very helpful ''

''Very good, excellent furnishings, great pool. The location was just what we wanted. Quiet but close enough to the village and further afield the larger places e.g.Polis & Latchi. Superb views looking towards the sea.

We liked The Old Town Restaurant & Chix Chox both In Polis. Porto Latchi in Latchi and Santa Barbara in Argaka 100 % satisfied with your service and that of owner locally. ''

''The property was high quality and well equipped. Spacious inside and well landscaped outside with a good deal of space around the villa. A good deal of extra area provided for sitting and relaxing as well as around the pool area. The location is secluded without being cut off or difficult to access. The location gives panoramic and far reaching views. There is no shortage of taverna choice in Polis/Latchi and more locally in Steni. We were satisfied with your service to us as we have found it to be very good in all aspects. We were more than pleased with the service from the owner. Our pool was cleaned at least every other day, he was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive and made sure we were happy with everything. I hope this is helpful. Thank you again for great customer relations and service. ''

''A lovely, well appointed villa. All the equipment was high spec and it is really well laid out. The owner has also put many artefacts from his travels which give it a special feel. The outdoor area was superb and the pool is excellent. The owner is very attentive and helpful and left a fantastic welcome pack - really good.

The villa has the most spectacular views over the bay and the location is very private and secluded. Just what I wanted. I Always go to Yialos in Latchi - great food and service.

Absolutely, excellent service from you as always. Locally Phillipous was attentive and helpful, looked after the pool really well and on hand for any issues. As mentioned above left a really good welcome pack including wine, milk, tea, coffee, eggs and a really nice touch - left a frozen pizza for my late Saturday night arrival - which went down really well :-) It was pretty much perfect. Thanks again for all your help. The villa was excellent and I will definitely be back and book through letsrentonline.com of course.''
