Cyprus - Paphos, Aphrodite Hills

Overlooking the birthplace of Aphrodite herself, Aphrodite Hills Resort near Paphos offers the first luxury holiday resort experience in Cyprus. Aphrodite Hills features a championship standard golf course, Annabel Croft tennis academy, Village Square with shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and a first class spa. Villa Amathus is a single story villa and is set just off the 6th fairway of the golf course with just a few minutes drive to get to the complex' facilities. The villa itself has been furnished to a very high standard by the owner and upgraded for 2015 with the assistance of a professional interior designer.

Villa Amathus is a private 2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Single Storey Villa with swimming pool set in in a large mature plot of 1312 m2 and is a part of the 5 star Aphrodite Hills Resort in Paphos, Cyprus. The villa itself sleeps four and has great facilities which include air conditioning, wi-fi, satellite tv, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, private pool and patios (with seating and dining options covered by sale shades) & pool safety cover to name but a few. The garden is mature and provides the perfect setting for relaxation in the sun.

Aphrodite Hills isn't just about golf; beaches are in easy reach and it makes a great base to explore all of Cyprus. That's if you can pull yourself away from the lovely private pool and relaxation areas just outside your front door...

Martin from Didcot, Oxfordshire said "This was our fourth visit to Aphrodite Hills. We absolutely love it there and this is by far the best villa we have stayed in. Everything we could think of was supplied and it was all very comfortable. There is no need to play golf if you don't want to and the short journey to the beach is well worth it. Many thanks, we will be back."

The Single Storey layout of Villa Amathus which stretches to 123m2, features an impressive open plan living /dining/kitchen area with comfortable leather sofas, table and chairs to seat 6 and a Flat Screen TV with Satellite & DVD player. Wide doors open out onto a covered veranda characterized and shaded by classic sales with views across the private pool, mature gardens and then out to sea. The modern and convenient kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances including a washing machine and dishwasher with useful extras such as microwave and coffee machine. The lounge area itself also benefits from a wooden double height ceiling assisting with comfort and providing the feeling of Cypriot authenticity at the same time.

Moving along the hallway, the master bedroom has a king-sized bed, separate dressing/wardrobe area and an en-suite bathroom with bath (shower over), shower cubicle and WC. The second bedroom is a twin room also with fitted wardrobes. A separate shower room with shower cubicle and WC completes the internal areas. All windows in the bedrooms have traditional wooden shutters for cooling and shade from the hot summer sun.

Full air-conditioning for cooling and heating as required is included. A travel cot and highchair can be provided free of charge upon request.

Wi-Fi is also included in the rental rate.

**The current IPTV system features most UK Sky channels (premium sports, documentaries, movies & music included) as well as many channels in German, Spanish and Russian. It also features a library of 900 movies, series and children's series which is regularly updated.**

The extensive grounds (over 1300m2) and enclosed gardens of Villa Amathus are a true delight.

Immediately outside the villa is the inviting private pool and surrounding terrace which provides a choice of areas for sun worshipping, alfresco dining and evening entertainment. The private pool is 8m x 4m and has a pool cover ensuring warmer temperatures and usability in shoulder months in the season. The easy to operate pool cover can also be walked on without collapse which is a good safety feature for those with young children. (we believe a baby elephant can safely walk across it!).

To enhance your enjoyment of this area the owner has provided a sofa set to seat 4 on a patio near the private pool as well as a dining table and 6 chairs. Newly fitted and classy sale shades ensure use of these areas is possible at all times.

When it does all get too much there is a rear patio area mostly in shade where you can sit and have a coffee and pre-dinner aperitif or sit on the wicker sofa and read a book or relax. The garden area hosts a see-saw and swings for the children.

A Portable Gas BBQ has been provided to assist in to preparing your own Cypriot cuisine using all the organic foods on offer in the local area.

''We had a wonderful holiday and we would be interested in returning next year for the same two weeks. Lovely villa. Really spacious and roomy, with lots of good outdoor spaces to sit. The pool is a good size and kept beautifully clean. It also felt private and secluded. Location is Nice and quiet and peaceful. The 'compromise ' is having to drive everywhere, though we came to enjoy the drive to the resort centre, and it was worth it for the quiet seclusion. I do think the resort could do more for those on the Eastern plateau to improve access, such as a short cut or a regular 'land train'.

We enjoyed Pissouri Bay beach and Captains Bay restaurant there. We also liked OVrakas in Pissouri. The restaurants on resort were all good and we ate in these most of the time, though they are more expensive. The meze at Pithari was very good value however, and more than anyone could possibly eat. We enjoyed trips to Kourion and Kolossi castle, and both water parks were good. The spa on resort was also well worth a visit. We also made use of the hotel children's pools, even though we probably were not supposed to, which is something the resort should just allow.

Yes, excellent service from you. Excellent locally also, all prompt, and we appreciated a change to the mattress that we requested. We like the combination of villa privacy with the facilities of a larger resort on hand. ''

''The villa was beautiful. It was better than anticipated from the photos. Although a two bedroom the villa was very spacious. We were surprised by the amount of outdoor space and variety of seating areas.
The resort itself was so well kept and maintained. It also felt very safe. The satellite TV was a bonus! My husband was delighted he could watch the Lions rugby games!!

The location was as expected. We knew it was further away from the entrance/hotel/village square. It was not a problem for us, as we had a car. However, the location for us was perfect; in that is was extremely peaceful, quiet and private, which is what we wanted.

We loved Kouklia, with it's small restaurants with great local cuisine. We went many times. We enjoyed the Cypriot entertainment there also. We loved the harbour in paphos, perfect for a coffee, and relaxing whilst people watching. We enjoyed visiting Latsi, and going on a fabulous boat trip, where we were able to swim in sea. The water was so clear, and the scenery beautiful. We enjoyed a meal at the harbour there too.
Pissouri had a few nice restaurants too, and the bay was very picturesque to dine. The Fasourri waterpark was well worth a visit, it had a range of attractions that met our usually visited Orlando water park standards. Our daughter had a wonderful time there. Limassol marina was also a nice place to visit, and to eat; there were so many ice cream and coffee shops!!

Very satisfied with your service. Steven was extremely helpful, and was fast to respond to any questions or requests we had. The cleaners and pool maintenance men were friendly! This is our type of holiday; villa with private pool. ''

''Apologies for the delay with the feedback – please see my comments below:

We had a lovely holiday and thank you for the great service. we had plenty of room for the 2 of us – everything we needed was available across the property/in the kitchen. The landscaping outside and places to sit /lounge by the pool were great. The property was clean and tidy. Welcome pack of tea/coffee/bread/ milk was very welcome arriving late at night.

Lovely quiet location away from building work going on over the other side. We went mainly into Paphos itself to eat – we found an Indian called Koh -i-nor it was superb. The Italian at Aphrodite Hills was wonderful – the pub on site was poor with very poor service. Golf Club has good food and good service. Your service has been better than a lot of other companies we have used previously – would recommend. Nicos was available whenever required – he was friendly and keen to please. We had electricity issues that seemed to stem from a leak previously / something up with pool pump – he sent several of his team to sort these things out. Overall he seemed to care a lot and that’s what counts to us.. We would consider yourselves again and the same villa. Super service and reasonable prices. We had a lovely holiday made better by the property and the local service provided. I would recommend LetsRentOnline to others. ''

''The villa was lovely, exactly as expected from the website. Comfortable and well equipped. Having not stayed at a ‘golf resort’ before (we don’t play golf) we did not really know what to expect. However, that was more through our lack of research. That said, it was a lovely location, very quiet, albeit there was no local culture.

Thank you for recommending Latchi Watersports . We hired a boat for the day and it was brilliant. A very well run company and an excellent day out. We would also recommend Eco Tours. We had an excellent day out with them when we tried to book the Paphos Wine Tours but they were full. I would recommend that people book that well before their holiday.

Your communication was great and reassuring in an age when there are fraudulent accommodation rental websites. Also, we have rented many houses over the years and this is the first time we have been sent a questionnaire – a very good idea. One day the pool cleaner put the cover on the pool. I phoned Nicos and he promptly came and sorted it within the hour. We had a fabulous time and the house was lovely. ''

''Many thanks for the prompt return of our deposit on Villa Amathus. The villa provided excellent facilities maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. It was a pleasure to be inside and also outside around the pool and on the shaded patio. The villa has a quiet location on the Aphrodite Hills Resort, perfect for the relaxing holiday we wanted, but the resort’s restaurants and shop was easily accessible by car. Outside of the resort, we enjoyed the village of Pissouri and the lovely restaurants of Pissouri Bay. We were made to feel very welcome when we popped into the local bar of Midway in Pissouri for breakfast on Saturday morning. We were the only non-local people there and when we left even the other customers said goodbye!

Communication with yourselves has always been excellent. At times it seemed we were on instant messenger instead of email and you have been honest and accurate the information you gave. We had no reason to contact the local representative although we had his mobile phone number if it became necessary.

We would love to return to Cyprus and that may well be in the next 2 years, I will certainly consider contacting LetsRentOnline again. Villa Amalthus was perfect for us this year – quiet and private, and we would love to return. Again, thanks for a fantastic 2 weeks of quiet relaxation in beautiful, sunny Cyprus! Penny''

''We enjoyed our stay at villa Amathus and found everything very satisfactory We were well looked after by Nicos nothing too much trouble, likewise Anya Who cleaned. The one thing we felt would be nice would be a Rug on the floor in the sitting area. We like the Hillview Resturant in Pissori and Malanda Traverna on Avidmou beach. Yes we will return, we would like to rent villa Amathus again this coming November.''.

Agent Note: Thank you very much for your review. We are very pleased about your comments and agree with them all. We are sure the owners will provide a rug in time for your next booking. Thank you once more.

''Fantastic villa but the only downfall was the lack of english tv channels. Paradise is one word to describe aphrodite hills. We would recommend Grazie Ristorante in Pafos is the best restaurant we've ever been to.
Aphrodite Hills Riding Club is a must visit fantastic experience. Very satisfied with all service received''.

Agent Note: Thank you very much for your review. We are very pleased about your comments and agree with them all. The owner has now installed a new IPTV system which features most UK Sky channels (premium sports, documentaries, movies & music included) as well as many channels in German, Spanish and Russian. It also features a library of 900 movies, series and children's series which is regularly updated. Thank you once more.

''Hi Steven, I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say a huge thank you for our wonderful stay at Villa Amathus. Everything went smoothly and the villa is exceptional. Very peaceful, excellent facilities and Nicos and his team were helpful and approachable whenever we need to contact him. We enjoyed our break so much, hence why we contacted you to extend our stay! I cannot praise the service and hospitality more... I have noted from the website that Villa Amathus appears to be booked up for most months through to the end of next year? Is this correct? If the villa is available in the near future, I will be in touch to re-book... Once again, many thanks... Caroline, Lee & Savannah (Bentley-Showell) ''.

''Sorry for the delay in replying. We had such a fantastic time at the Villa Amathus that it has been a bit of a shock getting back into our usual hectic routine!!! Please see below our answers to your questions:

The villa and grounds were absolutely beautiful and were enjoyed by both us and our 12 year old twin daughters. The villa and the Aphrodite Hills Resort are truly 5*.

Unfortunately when we arrived (28/3) there was only one restaurant open in the resort but by the time we left (11/4) the hotel and most of the restaurants had opened. Nevertheless we had lots of lovely meals while staying there, particularly in the Bunch of Grapes in Pissouri and enjoyed a really good night at the Thanasis Place restaurant in Kouklia with live music and Cypriot dancing.

The agents and local managers provided an excellent service and any queries we had were sorted out straight away.
The villa and gardens were just perfect for a truly relaxing holiday''.

The sandy, child-friendly beach offers luxury bar and restaurant facilities and service, as well as complimentary towels, sunbeds and umbrellas.* There is also a horse riding club which caters for all ages and abilities and can be booked directly at reasonable rates.

Aphrodite Hills Village Square

The beautiful Village Square is the focal point of daily life at Aphrodite Hills. Its a charming place to visit the shops, enjoy one of the bars or restaurants for a lazy coffee or an equally lazy lunch or dinner. Designed to reflect the unhurried atmosphere of a traditional Cypriot village and built from locally quarried stone, it stands at the heart of the resort overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The Village Square has a real community ambience with a great choice of shops and restaurants, a wedding chapel and open spaces that invite you to relax and watch the world go by in true Mediterranean style. The Village Square offers a great selection of restaurants, bars and popular beer garden. As well as the many dining options, the Village Square offers all amenities guests could want or need, including a bank, medical centre, supermarket, flower shop, travel agency, electronics shop, gallery shop, optician and luxury fashion and jewellery boutiques. In addition to offering the best shops and restaurants, the spacious open-air area acts as the focal point for events such as traditional bazaars and other festivities.* You can also hire segway's, tandems and bikes very easily here.

Crowning Aphrodite Hills Resort's outstanding leisure facilities is the magnificent 18-hole golf course, designed by acclaimed course architect, Cabell B. Robinson. Five years in the making, it follows the scenic contours of the two plateauxs, its challenging fairways cutting a swathe through lakes, olive and carob trees. No wonder the golf course has taken its rightful place among the very best the Mediterranean can offer and played host to high level professional events in recent times also. No matter how many times you play the course, there's always a new challenge. Not least the skill needed to conquer the dramatic holes that run alongside or traverse the dramatic central ravine. Celebrate your success in the sophisticated Clubhouse, overlooking the 18th green and the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean below. In the restaurant you can savour delectable Cypriot specialties, international cuisine and an extensive wine list, or just enjoy the breathtaking view from the terraces. A premier Golf Academy, practice holes and pro-shop enhance your golf experience.

Tennis enthusiasts will love the facilities at the Aphrodite Hills Resort. An ideal location for outdoor sports with its year round temperate climate, Annabel Croft's Aphrodite Hills tennis club boasts fabulous views over the sea as well as Olympic class facilities. The surface is a championship standard greenest hard court. Lessons and court bookings are readily available for all residents and visitors.

The Retreat Spa at Aphrodite Hills aims to enhance the island's luxury spa destination offer. Located in the heart of Aphrodite Hills, 'The Retreat' offers a haven of calm, serenity and tranquility offering an indulgent and blissful respite to ease away the strains of everyday life. The Retreat provides a unique treatment environment, with its serene monastic design and a variety of therapy areas. With a total of 24 spacious rooms many with sea views, the options include couple rooms to private balconies to specialized hydrotherapy, spa manicure and pedicure rooms, Thai rooms and garden massage pavilions. With an expert team dedicated to providing an unforgettable spa experience, this is a special place designed to clear the mind, soothe the body and indulge the spirit. The Retreat also boasts stunning elevated pools overlooking the Mediterranean as well as fragrant gardens with dancing fountains - everywhere there are personal havens, views, scents and textures to delight the senses.

Just Outside the Resort:

Pissouri Village:

About 3 miles along the coast road (or motorway). Pissouri is a wonderful Cypriot village with a town square; old men playing backgammon and just watching the world go by. In fact, it's a great place for you to do that too. During the summer months there are lots of activities in the village - even a Cyprus night every Wednesday which ex-pat residents and local Greek Cypriots all attend! There are many bars (including a couple of new wine bars) and excellent restaurants. Also village shops including a butcher, baker, gift shop and a bank. There is a large Papantoniou supermarket giving variety from the one in the village square and also Pissouri Beach: Pissouri is the nearest ‘tourist' beach but it is still quiet. And you can drive right up to the beach at the eastern end. There are sunbeds and umbrellas (all payable); parascending; jetskis - in fact, everything you would expect to find at a beach resort. There are a number of bars and restaurants.

Kouklia is also famous as the historical capital of Cyprus – known as "Palaipafos" (Old Paphos) – it was one of the most important ancient kingdoms of Cyprus. The entire area of Kouklia is an important archaeological region. Excavations have found the famous temple of "Aphrodite of Paphos" (Pafia Aphrodite), the remains of the fortifications of Palaipafos, and various other treasures that are found in Kouklia's Archaeological Museum. Kouklia has a vibrant village square with good choice of tavernas and watering holes. There is also local shops there.

Other local beaches can easily be reached at Petra Tou Romiou, Avdimou and Geroskipou in one direction and Coral Bay and Lara in the other.

Above Aphrodite Hills is the road to the Troodos Mountains and Cedar Valley. The route is lined with small, charming villages along the way. There is an excellent highway which runs to all corners of Cyprus but the old coast road by the sea is the most scenic route. A drive along here past various ancient sites such as Aphrodite's Birthplace and Temple towards Limassol, taking in Kourion (ancient Amphitheatre) and Kolossi Castle is delightful with beautiful views wherever you look.

Paphos combines ancient history with a cosmopolitan, modern tourist resort. The area by the coast is known as Kato Paphos and boasts a pretty little harbour and plenty of open air cafes and bars. Further inland is the aforementioned old town of Paphos, known by the locals as Ktima. With its narrow streets, hustle and bustle, covered market and typically Cypriot atmosphere, it is well worth a visit. As a consequence, Paphos is on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list.

Cyprus is famous as the birth place of the goddess Aphrodite, Venus in Roman mythology. She is known as the Ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty. Legend says that she emerged from the sea at Aphrodite’s Rock in a surge of sea foam.
